MPA Electives...
Still looking for spring electives??? Please contact
Melissa Hall (801-585-7985) to discuss options within the department and outside of the department. We have a couple new electives this spring that might interest you.
Globalalization and Trade Policy Course--great for students interested in international work, including NGO's and international nonprofits. Guest lecturer Governor Jon Huntsman Jr.
Urban Built Environment--Pauline Zvonkovic currently works for HUD's Salt Lake City Office, focusing on community relations, homeless issues, affordable housing and federal funding. Pauline formerly worked for Salt Lake City and Ogden City.
E-Government--We live in a convenience society. We expect everything to be easily accessible and available at the touch of a button. This desire has pushed governments toward offering more and more services online. However, e-government is not merely about adding a website to existing services. It requires governments to rethink how it provides services to citizens and what its mission actually is. It also raises important questions about privacy--should the government know everything about you--use of data, and digital divides between the rich and the poor. This class will explore the nuances of e-government and consider how what e-government can do, what are its limits, and whether it is a good thing or the first step toward "big brother."
